Blocks Group has acquired 100% of the shares of Aktios Elderly Care in Greece. Aktios is the leading elderly care operator in Greece.
Established in 2007, the company is synonymous with high-quality care. Under the leadership of Dr. Costis Prouskas, it has been a pioneer in the Greek market in elderly care for the last 14 years. Aktios operates four licensed elderly care units with 288 beds in three locations in central Athens. It employs more than 130 caregivers.
“We are extremely pleased to add Aktios to the Blocks family. Its’ world-class care, expertise and know-how will help us elevate the level of care throughout Southeast Europe. The team of Aktios consists of world-class professionals. The passion and empathy they deliver care is contagious”, Ilian Grigorov, Chairman and CEO of Blocks Group commented.
Following the acquisition of Filoktitis Rehabilitation Center in Athens in the summer of 2020, the acquisition of Aktios will lead to the creation of the dominant long-term care operator in Greece. The combined Greek operations will be close to 500 beds and will cover the entire continuum of post-acute and long-term care. Dr. Costis Prouskas will continue to be the Chairman and CEO of Aktios, but will also assume the supervision of all Blocks senior living facilities in southeast Europe as a Group Chief Clinical Officer Senior Living.
“To team up with Blocks is a unique opportunity. We share the same vision towards high-quality compassionate care. Together we can overcome the Covid and post-Covid challenges and focus on delivering the highest quality, professional and compassionate care to the people in Greece and Southeast Europe. We have apparent synergies with Filoktitis in completing every aspect of the post- acute care continuum”, Dr. Prouskas added.
Blocks Group was founded in 2018 with the purpose of developing a platform for investing in rehabilitation and long-term care services in Southeast Europe.
With close to 1,000 beds in operation and at advanced stage of development, Blocks is the leading long-term operator in Southeast Europe. It covers all service lines in the post-acute and long-term care continuum, including elderly care, dementia care, short-term and long-term rehabilitation, and homecare. It operates under the umbrella brand Blocks and several other brands incl. Blocks Rehabilitation, Blocks Senior Living, Blocks Memory Care, Blocks Hospice and Blocks Homecare.
The vision of the founding shareholders is for Blocks to become the leading provider of highest quality, world-standard rehabilitation and long-term care services in the region. Currently, Blocks is operating a state-of-the-art family type nursing home and a hospice in Sofia, as a part of a big post-acute care campus that is being developed on a land plot of more than 35 decares (approximately 9 acres), in the foothills of Vitosha mountain. The campus will consist of 21 buildings with a total area of 33,000 sq.m., including a rehabilitation hospital, dementia care residence, community center and many more.
